Honeywell
The Connected Freight, hardware, and software solution enables real-time location, integrity monitoring, and management of high-cost, high-risk shipments through smart sensor tracking that communicates the location, shock, tilt, temperature, humidity and light intrusion of your freight, at all times.

CHALLENGES
Invent a holistic hardware and software iOT solution that was ready to implement in six months for partner field trials.
Form a design team within a week and ramp the team members on becoming 3PL SME’s.
Partnering with teams across the globe. Time zones, language barriers and ownership challenged the team to work around the clock.
IMPACT
Design integral into the first sale of the solution.
Created a strong partnership with Intel that generated new projects.
Created a new product category for Honeywell.
Introduced new design frameworks and processes into Honeywell.
Understanding the problem space: creating the Box Journey.
Our solution had to accommodate a variety of workflows. Designing a solution that disrupted a connected worker's current workflow, would mean our product would fail. We created this box journey to illustrate how Connected Freight would deliver a simple, non-disruptive, and highly beneficial solution. This artifact was created to build trust with our internal and external partners. It proved to be successful. Partners requested printed box journey posters to hang in their offices. Our team were now trusted to be subject matter experts.
Prototyping was integral to the success of product sales with our external partners. We conducted prototyping workshops and employed body storming as a tool to communicate our solutions to internal and external partners. We would produce a body storming video in as little as two days so we could quickly vet out our designs. We also used these videos as a ‘visual spec’ for our engineers.
Bodystorming is a technique of physically experiencing a situation to derive new ideas. It requires setting up an experience - complete with necessary artifacts and people - and physically “testing” it.
“We’re excited about the Connected Freight solution because it is taking the freight and making it come to life. ”
Engineering and UX Workshop
I organized and facilitated the Engineering and UX workshop that resulted in a final design for both the gateway and the tag. This workshop also resulted in the first sale of our product with our field trial partner, Expeditors. A $1M deal.
Our design resulted in a Good Design Award.
HDLS design lead
I was a principal contributor/consultant for the inaugural design language system for Honeywell. I partnered with designers from all over the company to identify and create the core components for the HDLS. By identifying the critical use cases for the connected worker, we were able to develop a targeted set of UI components that enabled Honeywell designers and engineers to create targeted, aesthetically pleasing software experiences for our customers
A sample from the HDLS website that was managed by design leaders (which included me) that volunteered their time to oversee the HDLS site creation. The goal of the HDLS site was to share best UX practices as well as download all the assets needed to create interfaces for mobile and web.
From the HDLS website: Mobile app examples utilizing components that I created in partnership with UI designers from around the company.
Sample of downloadable icon sets. We created over 500 icons, total.
We created exemplary UI animations utilizing HDLS components to inspire our audience in how they could use for their unique scenarios.
